planning events. Below you will find links to those organizations,
resources on campus for students with questions regarding sexual
identity and coming out, and links to local and national LGBTQ legal
resources.
Advocacy Organizations
The
LGBT Project brings impact lawsuits in state and federal courts
throughout the country - cases designed to have a significant effect on
the lives of LGBT people.
ERW
is a statewide political advocacy organization for the LGBT community
of Washington State. ERW works to end discrimination against LGBT
people throughout the state.
GLAAD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive
representation of people and events in the media as a means of
eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and
sexual orientation.
Lambda Legal is the oldest national organization pursuing high-impact
litigation, public education and advocacy on behalf of equality and
civil rights for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and
people with HIV.
Each
year, through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education,
NCLR helps more than 5,000 LGBT people and their families nationwide.
NCLR's precedent-setting case victories literally re-write the law,
changing the legal landscape for all LGBT people and families across
the nation. For three decades NCLR has led historic cases and today is
still trailblazing in pursuit of justice, fairness, and legal
protections for all LGBT people.
The
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force builds the political power of
the LGBT community from the
ground up by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to
defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation.
The
SRLP works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine
their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and
without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence. SRLP is a
collective organization founded on the understanding that gender
self-determination is inextricably intertwined with racial, social and
economic justice. Therefore, we seek to increase the political voice
and visibility of low-income people of color who are transgender,
intersex, or gender non-conforming. SRLP works to improve access to
respectful and affirming social, health, and legal services for our
communities.
The
Transgender Law Center works with community members and allies to make
California a state in which individuals can fully and freely express
their gender identities. The site has one of the nation's most
comprehensive collections of resources on transgender law and
information about innovative projects.
Bar Associations
The NLGLA
is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal
professionals, law students, activists, and affiliated LGBT legal
organizations. It was formally founded in 1989 and became an official
affiliate of the American Bar Association in 1992.
QLaw
is an association of LGBT legal professionals and their friends. QLaw
serves as a voice for LGBT lawyers in the state of Washington on issues
relating to diversity and equality in the legal profession, in the
courts, and under the law.
The University of Washington Outlaws provides a support and social network
for GBLTQ law students at the
University of Washington School of Law, raises awareness of
GBLTQ legal issues within the student body and faculty, and provides
mentoring to law students by sponsoring on-campus discussion panels
and advocacy activities.
Seattle University Resources
CAPS
seeks to promote and maintain the psychological health of students and
the campus community so that all are empowered to fully participate in
university life.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs
encourages students to be agents of change by empowering moral and
ethical leaders to be active, engaged citizens who serve their
communities. The OMA is dedicated to the promotion of a campus community
that appreciates, encourages, and celebrates diversity. The OMA does this by
advocating for students, creating spaces for cultural celebration,
promoting leadership development, and providing opportunities for
education and reflection about multicultural issues.
This
club is committed to creating a multi-gender, multi-racial,
cross-class, multi-ability space to build trans community and alliance.
The
Triangle Club provides a forum for discussing queer activism and queer
politics and resources for the GLBTQA community. The club
is open to all who wish to join and make efforts to educate all who
want to learn more about the GLBTQA community.
Seattle Area Resources
Entre Hermanos los trabajo para mejorar la salud y bienestar
del LGBTQ la comunidad latina. Entre Hermanos works to improve the health and well-being
of the LGBTQ Latino community.
Gay City Health Project is a multicultural gay men's health
organization and the premiere provider of HIV and STD testing in King
County. Its mission is to promote gay and bisexual men's health and
prevent HIV transmission by building community, fostering communication,
and nurturing self-esteem.
The
GSBA is dedicated to combining business development, leadership, and
social action to expand economic opportunities for the LGBT community
and those who support equality for all.
Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV,
and to providing practical support services and advocating for those
whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS.
PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and
acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
Keeping families together is the mission of PFLAG. The family values of PFLAG stress
education, understanding, acceptance, and support, but most of all love, thereby
empowering all children, straight and gay, to lead happy and productive
lives.
The Pride Foundation connects, inspires, and strengthens the Pacific
Northwest LGBT community in
pursuit of equality. The Pride Foundation accomplishes this in rural and urban areas by
awarding grants and scholarships and cultivating leaders.
The Seattle LGBT Community Center provides opportunities
and tools for LGBT individuals, organizations, and communities that
ensure their voices can be heard, included, and affirmed. The Center aims to be a place
to engage, organize, and effect change.
The purpose of the Pride Celebration is to coordinate and promote LGBT PrideEvents in Seattle and the Pacific
Northwest, which celebrate the present, envision the future, and honor the Past.
