OutLaws Events

OutLaws sponsors and organizes a variety of events during the school year for present and past membership, staff, faculty, and the law school community at large. Additionally, OutLaws reaches beyond the Seattle University campus to engage the greater LGBTQ community of Seattle.

On Tuesday, February 24 at 5:30 p.m. in room 329 of Sullivan Hall, OutLaws will screen the film for my wife... as part of the Seattle University School of Law Diversity Week. Charlene Strong, one of the subjects of the film, will be our guest for a talkback and reception to follow the screening. Not to be missed - see the trailer below.

California Supreme Court Oral Arguments

Members of OutLaws, the American Constitution Society, and the Seattle University Family Law Clinic will gather in the courtroom on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 8:45 a.m. to view streaming oral arguments of the California Supreme Court on Proposition 8 - the ban on gay marriage.

Equality Day 2009: On the Road to Equality

Get on board for the biennial lobby day Thursday, March 12, 2009, and attend the rally in Olympia supporting LGBT civil rights coordinated by Equal Rights Washington. Events include the rally, pre-lobby training, and lobbying your district legislator. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. Click here to register for the event and/or to donate to Equality Day 2009. Gay Bingo Benefitting Lifelong AIDS Alliance

OutLaws members will be attending Gay Bingo on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets are $25 per person and proceeds benefit the Lifelong AIDS Alliance. The theme for April 18 is "J'adore Gay Bingo."  Dust off your beret and contact Paul Byrne for tickets.

2009 Recruiting Day

The 2009 OutLaws Recruiting Day was organized to coincide with a recruiting visit from representatives of the Judge Advocate General. We utilized the event to raise awareness of the continuing discriminatory hiring practices of the United States military and to boost our general membership for greater participation in our 2009 events.

Anti-Prop 8 Rally

Members of OutLaws attended the Anti-Prop 8 Rally in Seattle on November 10, 2008 coordinated by Join the Impact! 

QLaw Mentorship Event

OutLaws members helped coordinate the QLaw mentorship program kickoff that took place in the gallery of Seattle University School of Law's Sullivan Hall in October of 2008. The event featured a speed networking event with members of QLaw, the GLBT Bar Association of Washington State.

Aswat & GALZ

On September 8, 2008, OutLaws teamed with Amnesty International Puget Sound, the Seattle University Human Rights Network, and the Middle Eastern Student Association to host a presentation by Aswat (The Palestinian Gay Women Organization) and GALZ(Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe). The pioneering activists addressed LGBTQ issues in their countries.

Among a variety of other events, OutLaws has hosted a number of CLEs and panels on domestic partnership and gay marriage, we host events for National Coming Out Week annually, and often participate in the Lifelong AIDS Alliance Bingo.
