General Meeting
Thursday, October 17th, 2002
5:30pm – 7:00pm

I. Call to Order
The
meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. in the Student Center, room
330.
II. Old Business
A.
Ice Breaker: Members introduced themselves by stating their
name, major of studies, and one interesting thing about them.
III. New Business
A.
Election: There were three opened positions: Secretary,
Historian, and New Student Rep. Candidates for the office of
Secretary were: Valerie Tran and Diana Nguyen; candidates for New
Student Rep were: Duy Anh Dao and Faye Lai; and Thi Le was candidate
for Historian. Each candidate prepared a brief speech about
themselves and why they were running for the desired position. All
members voted and the results will be announced and posted on SU-VSA
webpage by next Monday, Oct. 21, ’02.
B.
T-Shirt: T-shirt design deadline was extended till next
meeting Thursday, Nov. 07, ’02. The designer of the T-shirt will
receive a free T-shirt.
C.
Fundraising:
1.
Seahawk fundraiser: Saigon Bistro is willing to sponsor SU-VSA
and allow 20 people to work the food stand at the Seahawk games.
Support from members who are 21 years of age and older are
encouraged.
2.
Tet game (Feb, 3rd): The event will be held at
Seattle Center on Tet (Vietnamese New Year). Female members will
dress in Ao Dai (Vietnamese dress) and pass out candies in cheers of
the holiday spirit, while others will take charge of a game.
3.
Roses & Kisses (Feb, 13th): Last year (Hershey’s
Kisses) Roses sale was a success, so this year we will do the same.
Roses are made by wrapping cellophane with Hershey’s Kisses and sell
on Feb, 13th.
4.
SU/UW dance (Feb, 8th): The dance will be held in
Seattle University Campion Ballroom. Details will be announced at
later meeting.
IV. Upcoming
Events
A. Tet Dance: Any members who are
interested in helping to coordinate a dance for Tet, please
notify Huong Huynh by next meeting.
B. Scholarship on the Website:
Scholarship is awarding $300 to the winner with a well-written essay
in English or $500 to the winner with a well-written essay in
Vietnamese.
C. Thanksgiving Dinner: We will
gather on Tuesday, Nov. 26th once again to celebrate
Thanksgiving. The dinner will be held in room 330, located on
the third floor of the Student Center. Each member is encouraged to
bring a gift costs $5 or less to share with others.
D. International Dinner: We will
prepare a Vietnamese dish at for the International
Dinner that is held on Jan. 25th,
’03. We will also perform a cultural dance (Mua).
E. Tet at the Student Center:
Performance of Dragon Dance, and Li Xi Tree Game. The
celebration is from 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m.
V. Announcements
A.
Community Service: We were fortunate to have Nam and Theresa,
members of VSA of the University of Washington,
come to share with us the services we can do to contribute to our
ietnamese community. They are looking for tutors to help Vietnamese
children who have recently come to America. For more details or
contact information, please see Diane Nguyen.
B. Next meeting will be held on
Thursday, November 7, 2002.
