About Barrio

What is Barrio Fiesta?

Barrio Fiesta is UFC’s biggest annual event. It is a celebration of the Filipino and Filipino-American culture through food, theater, song, dance, and poetry. Our audience and performers are not limited to those of Filipino heritage. We promote all over the Northwest region and our program consists of several performers from the community as well as a number of UFC members. Our audience is a conglomerate of kids, college students, alumni, parents, and grandparents.

This year’s theme is “A Filipino Story: Through the Pages of Our Lives.” (Istoriang Pilipino: Tungkol sa mga Dinaanan sa Buhay.) It follows two Filipino-American siblings trying to understand the meaning of family through a surprising yet positive journey. Starting out as two individuals with no care for the other, they learn that they must stick together to overcome the obstacles through their journey, but also through their reality.

This year, we would like to extend our community service overseas. For each ticket purchased, we will donate $1 to “UNICEF Philippines”. UNICEF Philippines envision that “All children in the Philippines enjoy their rights and have a bright future within caring and protective families and communities...”  UNICEF Philippines’ four major campaigns includes providing help for to-be mothers and current mothers with a focus on the mother’s health and the affects of breast feeding; preventing the exploitation of children through child pornography; preventing the corruption of crime acts on children, keeping them out of jail; and the provision of medicines, and other supplies to areas in the Philippines that are still considered in Armed conflict. Our contribution will help their efforts to save the lives of many children, and enrich the lives of many more.

What Are Barrio Points?

Barrio points is a point-earned system that allows paid ufc members discount towards their Barrio ticket price. Each Barrio point earned is a dollar off of the ticket price. Barrio points can be earned (as assigned by the current Barrio Chairs) through attending UFC events such as service and fundraising events; and also through attending or helping out with Barrio related events such as dance practices, Barrio workshops, tickets sales, and helping out at the ballroom during Barrio week.

*Barrio points are non-transferrable.
