Seattle University Math Club 2007-2008 Academic Year 1 Introduction We are a student organization at Seattle University for people who have a significant interest in mathematics. We typically meet in the Math Community Room (Bannan 415) on Friday afternoons at 4:00pm. We occasionally plan special events at other times throughout the academic year. 2 Contact Information Our officers for the 2007-2008 academic year are as follows:
The Faculty Advisors are Dr. Jeff Boersema and Dr. Dylan Helliwell. 3 Biweekly Problem Competition The Seattle University math department runs an informal problem solving competition. Every 2 weeks a new problem is posted on the 4th floor in Bannan on the bulletin board by the math office. The winner is selected by a drawing among the correct solutions that are received. 4 Putnam Competition We encourage all math students to participate in the Putnam Competition. Sample problems and solutions can easily be found online, as well as in a series of books published by the Mathematical Association of America. |
