Mission Statement

Mission of the Philippine Immersion Experience

As volunteers of the Philippine Immersion Experience based from Campus Ministry of Seattle University, we aspire to uphold the following ideals with no reservation and with hearts wide open.

To reflect the mission of Seattle University as emissaries of good will, conscience, and faith in this holistic immersion experience.

To continue to develop the values of care, academic excellence, diversity, faith, justice, and leadership as delineated in the mission statement through preparation, service, experiential learning, and reflection.

To provide a nurturing and an informed environment in which individuals may further cultivate their leadership skills as well as their own ideals and philosophies of service.

To establish a community of mutual support for each other’s emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and altruistic development.

To apply the Jesuit priority of "the service of faith and the promotion of justice" to address issues of poverty, injustice, discrimination, violence, and the environment in knowledgeable, committed, and effective ways.

To help alleviate the impoverished living conditions prevalent in the Philippines in as many opportunities as possible.

To exchange our experiences, our culture, and our perceptions of service with each other as well as with those Filipinos with whom we volunteer and with those whom we serve.

To establish a community that welcomes and promotes free dialogue among persons of diverse religious and intellectual traditions with particular respect to the poverty in the Philippines and to its consequences.

To enrich the spirit of service of Seattle University by sharing our reflections concerning our experiences in the Philippines.

To obtain a direct perspective of social injustices on a more global scale and to be continually inspired and vigilant of our individual calls to service.

To embrace the powerful experiences of volunteerism and to examine them through self-awareness, critical thought, and introspection.

To demonstrate love, compassion, openness, and dedication in our thoughts and in our actions among one another as well as for and with those whom we serve.
