What is Global Law Brigades?
Global Law Brigades (GLB) is a network of pre-law students and legal professionals who travel internationally to work toward socially conscious solutions that support empowerment of youth and civil society in disadvantaged communities. GLB programs are designed to provide education about domestic and international legal issues in developing regions including international humanitarian law; migration and refugee issues; business licensing and organic certification procedures; and, environmental and human rights concerns. The educational component is combined with opportunities to work together to empower local communities that are directly affected by these global issues and concerns.
We strive to develop a deeper understanding of the complex challenges faced by developing communities, and to identify local organizations with projects that demonstrate positive outcomes with potential for long-term success. Our GLB programs are designed to incorporate a flexible structure that allows students and professionals to collaborate with Global Brigades clubs from other disciplines including Global Environmental Brigades, Global Business Brigades, and Global Architecture Brigades. This unique model enables Global Brigades campus clubs to design projects with an interdisciplinary approach toward holistic service and empowerment for developing communities.
Currently, GLB programs are being developed in Central America, with possibilities for expansion to other regions. This secular organization empowers college students by building relationships with well established international legal, humanitarian, environmental and development organizations, and by providing opportunities to work together with communities served by these organizations.
